What I have been working on this week

Monday I adjusted my corset so the bust fits better.

Tuesday we really got to work I hand sewed my sleeves of my dress and my mom helped me finish my hoopskirt. My dad also help me cut out the rungs.

Wednesday I finished my Bodice.

Thursday I adjusted my hairnet. Created pockets off of original ones, cut 4 rungs out, created a bum pad, and almost finished my skirt.

Friday I finished my dress.😀

My hoop has gone wonky

Saturday I had an event and broke the button off my drawers. So I fixed that too.  I also got a really bad sunburn on my back. I'm in a Confederate group and we brought home a prisoner.
Confederate soliders marching through
Sunday we headed back to GCV&M again. Saturday and Sunday they had 2 battles. The first battle was on the field and the Union won. The second battle was a town maneuver set in the village. This battle actually happened in Tennessee. Along with soilder casualities there were Civilian too. The Union tried to storm the town, but, we preserved and won the battle😀. Except on Sunday Confederates won the first battle and lost the second. And I got an even worse sunburn.

Petticoats for an 1860s Silhouette

Hello everyone,
Yes I know. Where have been my posts? Uhh. Well life has been very busy with my newish job. I currently work 2 jobs plus school. Life has just been hectic. To tell you the truth, I have had my petticoat done for a while now. Since middle of May. I just didn't get the hooks on it til last week, I think. It was either last week or the week before.

But it is done. I still need to finish my hoop. Ugh. I really don't want to. But I need to. So I can have something to support my skirts. And after I have this up, I am going online fabric shopping :).

Petticoats are very important to your silouette, they help hide the rungs of your hoopskirt and/or add a little umph to your skirts. More pictures

I don't know what time peroid this is from but the brim is too long for 1930s but the crown is to large for 1910s. Ugh. So this will probaby fall under 1920s catergory.

Corset

I got my corset done on April 21st ,but, I'm finally are doing it know. I am semi happy of how it came out. But, it is comfortable. And I think I would have been happier if I got it done in one day. If I wouldn't have procrastinated on the Drawers I think I could had made most of it on Wendesday April 19th than I could have done a finished Thursday and start my hoopskirt. But, I did get over half way done that Wednesday.

It was really fun to make. The bust is bit big but that is okay. I messed up with sewing the casings, that is the only reason I am upset with it.

Historical Sew Monthly #4 Circles, Squares, & Rectangles: 1860s Hairnet

Once you get your dress done you work on accessories. Well my dress isn't done but I need to do my HSM for the month. A hairnet is really simple all you need is twill tape, ribbon, a hairnet, wire and thread to match your ribbon. I found some beautiful navy blue ribbon at Jo Anns. Twill Tape is left over from my corset and the wire is from previous projects last year. I got my hairnet from Sally Beauty Supplies.

I'm sorry I can't add pictures but my phone won't turn on. But as soon as I do I will make a post saying that I have updated this post. So you can all see my pretty hairnet.

I took the edge of the hairnet and sewed it to the bottom egde of the twill tape with a whipstich.

I stitched the Ribbon to the center of the twill tape.

I then whipstiched the two long edges of the twill tape together.

I then inserted the wire in it.

What it is: 1860s Hairnet

The Challenge: Circles, Squares, & Rectangles

Material: Cotton Twill Tape

Pattern: None, making it as I went

Year: 1860s

Notions: Ribbon, Thread, Wire, Hairnet

How historically accurate: Mostly. Thread wasn't correct fiber, Hairnet was also not the correct fiber, and Ribbon wasn't the correct fiber, either. Whipstitch was a correct stich to do.

Hours to complete: 1 hour and 30 minutes

First Worn: Haven't yet, when I finish my dress

Total Cost: Everything was from the stash, except for the hairnet, the hairnet cost $1.30.

Drawers

I got my drawers done. They were really easy to make.

They have a yoked waist band. They are gathered at the and are quite spacious. I used Simplicity 2890 for them. There were 8 pieces total but simple to make. I cut it down to a size 8 (I should have cut the waistband to a size 10). I cut of the seam allowance and didn't add the tucks and they came out quite nicely. The waistband is slightly to small, so when I'm wearing them they are bit tight.

What it is: Drawers

Material: 100% Cotton Muslin

Pattern: Simplicity 2890

Notions: Thread, Button

How Historically accurate is it?: 95%. It is made out of  cotton that is historically accurate, but the thread is polyester, and the button is plastic.

Hours to comlete: I don't know procratinated so much on it

First Worn: Last week for pictures

Total Cost: Button $0.40, Fabric from my stash. Total comes 40 cents

May is almost here

I have had a wonderful time on Spring Break. I procrastinated and sewed and procrastinated and sewed and cleaned sewed some more, so I wouldn't have to do my homework. But, I have got my homework done.

While writing this my mom is cooking dinner, it smells so good.

I got my drawers and corset done. My hoopskirt is almost done, on Saturday I will finish the sewing and add the steel. Then I will make the petticoats. On Sunday I will make the bodice. That Saturday after I will make my skirt and attach it, my apron, and my quilted sunbonnet. This week I want to make my hairnet.

For dinner we are having sweet honey barbecue steak with pineapple, straawberries, and salad.

Have a great week,
Love,
Paige
